Almost to date 75 years ago, McCary’s got its humble start in a rented space shared with a local Barber Shop on Milam Street in Downtown Shreveport. Now, the fourth generation of the family-owned business is spearheading the construction of their first free-standing location just a stone’s throw away from their E.70th Street home.

Miles and Anne Thomas, the son and daughter-in-law of Lynn McCary Thomas, have put in tireless hours of time and effort to help orchestrate this dream jewelry store. On prime property off E. 70th and Fern Loop, a thriving retail corridor, McCary’s Jewelers is on target with the construction schedule to be open by the end of Summer. It’s a family operation down to the team of people bound together to work on the construction.

“It was important to me to use as many local people, operations and materials as possible. This community has supported us for so many years. Gene Nims Builders built the house I grew up in and the youngest daughter of Designer Cabinets and Millwork owners, Dustin and Kandice Weeks, is in Anne’s homeroom class. This is more than just a jewelry store, it’s a legacy for the McCary family and we are putting our heart and soul into making sure it is something just as special to our customers,” said Miles Thomas.

The family patterned the location after the finest jewelers in the United States, focusing on the customer experience for details, style lighting, and product display. To initiate the building plan, Miles established a contract team including McNew Architecture, Brian McNew and Sara George; Gene Nims Builders; Designer Cabinets and Millwork; and Rebecca Graham, Owner of Chateu En Mae, amongst others.

In acknowledgement of this winning team, Miles reflected “McNew Architecture was able to take our hand-drawn ideas for the store layout, building materials and the like, and bring them to life in one of the more structured, professional experiences I have ever been a part. Their level of knowledge and expertise was critical to the project.”

McCary’s is now in Week 26 of the development with the building in brick and mortar, and the interior work of power, lighting, plumbing, HVAC and millwork underway. The new store is scheduled for a soft launch in early August. A grand opening will be publicly announced.

R.L. McCary, 86 years young, has shared a lifetime of beautiful creations through the family business and continues to do so every day with his custom work. He, however, has had the most fun watching his grandson use his learned and unique talents as an artisan and keen businessman.

“It is time for the youth of McCary’s to take the family business into the next decades of this journey. I fully support Miles’ insight into the new branding and direction of the store. It will be unlike anything this market has experienced in our industry and quite a testament to many years of dedication and hard work” said R.L. McCary.

McCary’s has been one of the very few jewelers in our market whose design and manufacturing is all in-house. They are an American Gem Society store, with a staff that includes a certified gemologist, multiple registered jewelers, and caring advisors with a passion for fashion and fine jewelry. The jewelers are proud members of the American Gem Society and the Gemological Institute of America. For more information, visit www.mccarys.com.
