The thought of organic, gluten free, healthy food isn’t foreign to Shreveport-Bossier, but it’s not exactly a way of life. But a trip to Bossier City’s #ThePeople’sMarket on Airline Drive reveals you’ve stepped into a different world. A restaurant with special menus for diners on the keto diet and the Paleo diet, quinoa bowls, root vegetable salads, fitness shakes, and prepped meals is certainly different from the average fare.
“We are a brand new #Organic, #Natural, #Healthy food option here in Bossier City,” said Owner Doug Mercado.
Chef Seth Stefanik, a classically trained chef from Jackson Hole, Wyo., has partnered with Mercado, a personal trainer and gym manager with over 10 years of fitness and nutrition experience. The restaurant is appropriately sandwiched between a gym and martial arts class. But it caters to the gym rats and the casual public, both.
“We offer a #Clean option to the over salted, over processed, high fat options all over the region,” Mercado said. “We have weekly #MealPrep service options as well as grab and go options. Sit and have a got meal from our #Gains or #Shredz Menu, or take on our famous #20DollarBurger from our #CheatDay Menu.”
The restaurant also offers #Organic Fair Trade Coffee from all over the world, fresh fruit smoothies, as well as post and pre-workout shakes.
It’s all made with the goal of macronutrient balanced meals, for everyone with all natural, organic ingredients free of additives and fillers.
“We are a standout here in Bossier,” said Mercado. “We have no fryers or microwaves. Everything is scratch made and #Clean.”
His goal is to offer Shreveport-Bossier a choice when it comes to their restaurants and hopes to see the area get a little bit healthier.
“When it comes to nutrition, balance is key. Eating is a replenishment of nutrients that the body needs. Without proper management of Macro, Micro, and Phytonutrients, healthy living is a bit more difficult. We have found, that by offering a healthy Balanced option helps folks make better health decisions,” Mercado said.
He added that they are committed to the idea that helping make a community healthier is worth the effort.
“Louisiana is the least healthy state in the country. If we can help one person a day, help get a hold of their health, we are doing well,” he said.
But that doesn’t mean they are stuffy or preachy. Mercado wants the community to know they care about nutrition and health, but are also the “Coolest Place” to eat.
“We are an all-social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat… We are looking forward to connecting with everyone here in northern Louisiana; Offering #Clean Food at #Affordable prices,” said Mercado. “Eating healthy doesn’t have to be expensive.”
